Comic Review: Ao Haru Ride

A while ago I was recommend to read the comic Ao Haru Ride. I put it off for a bit. Until last week I decided to take the plunge and I am so glad I did. Now, Ao Haru Ride isn't availble in English (It's not popular enough this side of the world, yet!!!) but you can purchase it on Amazon.co.uk in Japanese, French and German.

However! I did find it in English on a site called mymangaonline.net

Ao Haru Ride is a Japanese shojo manga series written and illustrated by lo Sakisaka. It was first published in 2011 and ended in 2015 (a lot of episodes : D ) In 2014 a Tv series and a live action movie was adapted.

The translation of Ao Haru Ride; 'ao' and 'haru' are read separately as 'blue' and 'spring'. 'seishun' is translated as 'youth' and is a compound word, which means 'youth ride'. So if you put it all together Ao Haru Ride translates as Blue Spring Ride. Fitting as it's about sixteen to seventeen years old at school.

About the series: Blue Spring Ride centres around the main character Futaba Yoshioka, a high school student. She is determined to be as unladylike as possible so that her friends wont be jealous of her. While living her life this way contentedly, she meets Tanaka-kun again, but he now goes under the name of Mabuchi Kou. He tells her that he felt the same way as she did when they were younger, but now things can never be the same again. Will Futaba be able to continue her love that never even started from three years ago?

My Thoughts: One word, obsessed. I absolutley adore the storyline. Yes it's your typical girl meets boy. But, for me, it's a fresh look on romance in a high school setting. Also the issues almost every person faces while at school andthe worry about what your friends will think of you and how your actions can determine friendships or breakups. I related so much to this series to my own secondary school (High school) experiences, even liking the same guy as my best friend. It kinda brought back so many memories and fun times at school.  It deffiantly brightend my days up when I was feeling unmotivated or had a bad day.

I also loved the illiustraions, especially the coloured ones at the start. The expressions of each charaters personality made me giggle. I liked how the characters arn't afraid to express emotions to one another.

I don't want to say too much about it, in case I spoil it. But, I would recommend that you all go and read this comic. You can read it here mymangaonline.net/manga-info/ao-haru-ride.htm

The Thing About Me is:

I have been considering doing something like this for a few months, but wasn't sure that you peeps would like that kind of thing. Overall, I want to have a more rounded blog. More about what I like and my interests. My blog is, after all, about lifestyle as well as beauty.

What I'm trying to say, or more of a warning, that my nerdy side will appear. I have no qualms about that. I just hope you enjoy what you are about to read.

So. The Thing About Me is: I like Anime

I told you this will get nerdy :)

If you have seen what i've been bragging about on Twitter recently, then you know (Sorry, not sorry). If you haven't well carry on reading...

I have always loved watching Anime tv programmes and films, since I was a child. I think the first programme I watched, was called lulu, Angel flower, or something like that. I was five at the time and I loved it. I have no idea, how my nan managed to pic the video tape up as it was in Japanese. But, that didn't phase me at all. My imagination ran wild with this one.

Fast forward to my teens and Spirited Away came to our screens. I absolutely adore this film and gives an almost 'Alice in Wonderland' feel, but more edgier. It's pretty much about a ten-year old girl, who moves to a new neighbourhood. She, then enters a spirit world after her parents are transformed into pigs. All in all, she has to find a way back to the human world.
I also enjoyed The Triplets of Belleville.

Anime has always interested me. I love the drawing styles and colours used. At school, I would be forever trying to draw anime and failing at it big time.

However, still to this day, if I draw a person, they would have the typical anime face shape and eyes. There's something about using your imagination while reading or watching Anime. Even if it's in Japanese and sometimes with no English subs. You can pretty much get what's happening from the different expressions of a character and sounds that they make. Which have me laughing out loud.

Another thing why I like it so much is, that it's educational. You learn about Japanese culture as well as the language. If it's got English subs on it, then you can learn phrases and single words.

Since meeting my now husband nine years ago. I kind of stopped watching it. I thought, I better grow up and stop watching 'cartoons'. Though, I did make him watch Spirited Away with me once. It's only now that, I have gotten back into it. I work with quite a few younger people in my day job and some of them like me, have an interest in Anime and have been recommending tv series.

Hence my obsession with Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride). I will tell you more about that in another post.

I have also been playing the Shall We Date app. Well, I have been playing it for a year. It's a Romance story in a game and you have to collect points to progress in the story. I would recommend Blood in Roses and Love Tangle.

My Recommendations:

Spirited Away

Below can be viewed over at Anime1.com

Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride)
White Album 2
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster)
Itazura na Kiss (It started with a kiss)

Do you like Anime? What do you recommend?

See you Soon

My Healthy Lifestyle

How is it February already? *sigh* This year is going way to fast, I feel like I have to wear a seatbelt *insert eye rolling emoji* Now that January has gone, I feel like I'm ready for the year. In the past couple of months I have been preparing and organising myself to get back into my healthy lifestyle, which I ditched last August. Last year I managed to loose all my excessive weight, in time for my wedding in July. At the time I was so proud of myself, my future was bright and I had goals. The picture below was taken on the morning of my wedding day.

Until halfway into my honeymoon, I experienced a really painful toothache. It took me off my feet and I almost over dosed on paracetamol. I was in another country and I was supposed to me enjoying my first week of marriage.

Instead I was in pain and all I wanted to do was sleep and go home. My husband, bless him looked after me and I forced myself on trips we booked on our first day. I hoped it would take my mind off it, however all I seemed to do was search for the nearest pharmacy.
My healthy lifestyle went straight out the window. I was eating all the wrong foods, all the time and I went to the gym once.

As soon as I returned home, I went to the dentist and got the pain delt with. All of this, plus work becoming hectic and very stressful. I stopped working out all together and I ate what I wanted. I am ashamed to say I hardly ate any fruit or veg and every meal looked yellow or brown *Yuk!*

I am now much heavier than I was last year and my fitness levels are very low. So now I am taking action! And I want to reverse my weight gain and start eating better. So, I am taking you with me, on my healthy lifestyle journey.

Every month I will post an update and occasionally I might post products and recipes I am using to help and what I think works for me and might for anyone else wanting to live healthier.

Does fitness and a healthier lifestyle interest you? Or are you already doing it?

See you soon
