Top Ten Bookworm Delights

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and The Bookish. Each week a different question is posed and gives us bloggers an opportunity to share our top tens on all different types of bookish topics. This week's topic:

Top Ten Bookworm Delights

As you may have noticed I love books. Not only do I love reading books, I love the whole experience that comes with it. There are some really lovely book related experiences that make me happy and these are what I turn to on any given day. I want to share and talk about the bookish delights that make me happy as a bookworm.

1. Browsing for hidden gems: Don't get me wrong, I love finding out what the next bestseller is via watching YouTube or reading someone else's recommendations. However, there is that part of me who just loves to wander into a book shop and just have a look. I can spend all day reading backs of books, finding something that triggers the 'YES, I WANT TO READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!' I also see it as a good way to find new genres that I don't normally read. Fifteen years ago, all I read was chick-lit, comedy and romance novels. It wasn't until I decided to explore the Fantasy and YA section at my local book store that I fell in love with these two genre's too. It's good to push the boat out see what you can find. It's a great experience knowing you have chosen a book, that you don't normally read, and that you love.

2. Pretty Covers: I know, I know... Don't judge a book by its cover. But sometimes I can't help it. If I see a pretty book, I will always read the summary and see what it's all about before buying it. Nine times, out of ten I like what I read and will purchase the book. Sometimes, if I love a book I already have, and I see it has a new cover design or it is a limited collectors design (whatever you call it) and I love it, then I will purchase the book.

3. The smell of a new book: Yes, I am that weirdo in the corner sniffing books. I just love that new book smell. I don't know what it is about it, I just love it. As soon as I open a new book, the first thing I do is smell it. It's one of my favourite smells next to extinguished matches and petrol.

4. It's raining out and you have your book and a cuppa: This makes me so cosy when I am reading and it's tipping it down outside. Equally, I also like to read in my garden in the sunshine. But my favourite is when the weather is horrible, and you just have the comfort of curling up on the sofa with a good book and a drink...maybe something to nibble on.

5. New Favourite Book: I love it when I come a cross a gem of a book, and I think 'Yes, this is going to be a bloody good one.' I tend to go into fangirl mode when this happens and all I think about when I'm not reading it, is what is going to happen next, or when is the next book out? I also start instagraming pictures, searching the web to see which actors I think will suit certain roles within that book. I even create a playlist. Please tell me i'm not the only one who does this.

6. Meeting people who likes to read the same books or likes your favourite author:
I love meeting new people. Especially when they share the same interests and books as you. Some great friendship have been made over the years. I am part of the All Souls Trilogy fan group which formed after the author, Deborah Harkness published the first book in the trilogy 'A Discovery of Witches'. There's thousands of us all over the world and every now and again some of us meet up and visit places that are in the books. I have met a great deal of my friends this way and I just won't stop doing that.

7. Meeting your favourite authors: I love going to book events and press releases with Q&A's. I have met quite a few of my favourite authors over the years and it just makes the whole book experience even better, especially when you are still reading their book(s) on meeting them. Two years ago myself and a group of the 'All Souls' Fan group decided to go to the 'Witching Hour Literacy' event at Foyles because Deborah Harkness was on the panel talking about her books, as well as, Katherine Clement and Karen Maitland. You can read all about it over on my old blog - Foyles Witching Hour Literacy Event

8. Someone loving a book you recommended: It makes me happy to see someone enjoy a book that I recommended to them. Even better if that person thinks they will hate it or dislike the genre. I sometimes like proving people wrong or opening their minds to explore more.

9. Staring a new series from the beginning: Nothing fills me with anticipation and joy when you find a new series from the day it is published. You and other readers are all in the same boat. Will this series be any good? What is it about? Will the characters be three dimensional and will I like them?
I dislike missing out on new series when the ship has sailed and all the hyped up interest has died down.

And Finally...

10. Author/Fan made content: I absolutely love it when the book your reading has drawings of the scenes, characters, family trees, and maps, made for by either a fan or the author. These are either inside the book sleeve or on tumblr. It just makes it so visual and real and does all sorts to my imagination.

Do you relate to any of the bookish delights mentioned above or do you have your own?
